Ortiz lost his title after being knocked out in the 4th round by Mayweather. It was a controversial finish that has the former champion and his team crying foul.
"At the end of the day, I feel like it was an unfair defeat," Ortiz said in a post-fight interview with ESPN Los Angeles.
Ortiz claims referee Joe Cortez had called for a break and he was just following instructions. He said he never heard the referee re-start the fight.
"I figured, if I drop my hands and he hit me, it's either a deduction or he gets disqualified," Ortiz said.
Ortiz' trainer, Garcia, is also criticizing Cortez, saying the referee was not in the correct position to re-start the fight.
Cortez was not looking at the fighters when Mayweather unleashed his knockout punch, as he was still gesturing to the ringside officials.
Garcia added the final 1-2 combination from Mayweather was illegal.
Ortiz and his handlers are asking for a rematch, which Mayweather said he will be happy to give.
"If he wants a rematch, he can get it," Mayweather said.
ESPN boxing analyst Dan Rafael believes a rematch will not happen.
“They (Team Ortiz) are basically groveling and begging for a rematch, and that’s not gonna happen in my opinion. This was a mismatch,” Rafael said.
Rafael said Mayweather was completely dominant and was brilliant in the early 3 rounds, but his performance was overshadowed by the controversial finish.
