Just In: US Navy Leaving 9 Aircraft for the Philippines

US Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who is currently in the Philippines, confirms that 5 A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, 3 HH-60G Pave Hawk search and rescue helicopters,1 MC-130H Combat Talon II special operations aircraft along with 200 airmen (pilots and support crew) will remain in the Philippines "to compliment the joint maritime patrols by the US Navy and Philippine Navy and also conduct joint air patrols with the PAF in the SCS/WPS".




"These patrols will continue to help build our interoperability and improve the Philippine Navy and Philippine Air Force even as these patrols contribute to the safety and security of the region's waters." Sec. Carter said.

Unnamed and unspecified number of US special operations units and command & control specialists will also remain in the Philippines.
