The quake hit 54 kilometers (34 miles) southeast of Kokopo, at a depth of about 66 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey said in a statement. Hazardous waves are possible for coasts located within 1,000 kilometers of the epicenter, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in an alert.
