A humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas has ended violently just hours after it went into effect on Friday morning.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the temporary truce which was spearheaded by the U.S. and the United Nations.
The militant wing of Hamas claimed Israeli tanks began indiscriminately shelling the southern city of Rafah, hitting a local hospital .

In response, the Israeli military said it was defending against cross-border rocket fire.
A spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces also confirmed that two soldiers were killed during a firefight with Hamas militants, while another was captured.
Amid the fresh violence, the Egyptian government says it's keeping the door open for talks between Israeli and Palestinian delegations in Cairo in order to resolve the conflict.
