Brad Pitt tried to pretend his marriage to Jennifer Aniston “was something that it wasn’t”.
Brad rose to superstardom in the nineties playing legendary roles in movies like Fight Club. He also had a high-profile love affair turned marriage with Jennifer. Although he ostensibly had it all, Brad admits that he felt empty.
“I spent the '90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony," Brad told Parade magazine. "I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic.”
Brad immersed himself in his career, picking roles where he could find deep inspiration. He was constantly trying to escape his dull reality.
"It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself," Brad recalled.
Brad thinks that his union with Jennifer contributed to his dreariness.
Brad began dating Jennifer in 1998, with the pair tying the knot in 2000. However, the marriage - which was officially annulled in October 2005 - was not what Brad thought it was.
“I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it,” Brad explained. “Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t."
Brad insists he does not regret his divorce.
Soon after announcing his split from Jennifer, he began dating Angelina Jolie. The pair now raise six children together and even though family life is demanding, he is truly happy.
"I’m satisfied with making true choices and finding the woman I love, Angie, and building a family that I love so much. A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss. … That’s the trade-off. But I’ll take it all. One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom.
"She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her.”
