Tropical Storm Erika to Hit Florida on August 30, 2015: State of Emergency Declared

Tropical storm Erika kills at least 20 people in Caribbean and it is forecast to hit Florida on Sunday, August 30, 2015 or earlier.
Florida has declared a state of emergency over Tropical Storm Erika as it nears the U.S. mainland after killing at least 20 people in the Caribbean.

Governor Rick Scott signed an official declaration Friday morning, activating dozens of emergency provisions to help the state cope with the coming storm, which is expected to hit the U.S. late Sunday.

Local authorities starting handing out sandbags, while schools and universities were being prepared for use as emergency shelters. It came as the death toll from Erika in the Caribbean reached at least 20.
